About SSC Havaldar (CBIC / CBN) Examination
The SSC Havaldar exam recruits candidates for the post of Havaldar in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) and the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN). It is conducted as part of the same SSC MTS notification, meaning candidates apply for MTS and Havaldar through a single application — but Havaldar has additional physical fitness requirements.
Havaldar in CBIC supports customs operations (preventing smuggling, inspecting cargo at ports/airports/border posts) and indirect tax collection. CBN Havaldars work on anti-narcotics enforcement under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Both roles are Pay Level 1 (₹18,000-₹56,900) plus allowances and ration money.
Selection involves a Computer-Based Examination identical to MTS (Session I + Session II), followed by Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST). Failing PET/PST disqualifies you for Havaldar specifically — but you can still be selected for regular MTS posts if your CBE score is sufficient.
