About SSC CPO — Central Police Organisation (Sub-Inspector) Examination
The SSC Central Police Organisation (CPO) exam recruits Sub-Inspectors (SI) in Delhi Police and Sub-Inspector / Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) positions in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) — BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, and SSB. It is a graduate-level recruitment with both academic and physical demands.
The exam follows a four-stage process: Paper 1 (CBT) → Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) → Paper 2 (CBT) → Medical Examination. Final merit is calculated using Paper 1 + Paper 2 combined marks; PET/PST and Medical are qualifying-only.
The pay scale is Level-6 (₹35,400-₹1,12,400) plus dearness allowance, special police allowance, ration money, free medical and housing benefits. Posting is across Delhi (for Delhi Police SI) or CAPF battalions deployed across India and at sensitive border locations.
Who the exam suits: graduates who want a uniformed, supervisory police career at the Sub-Inspector level and who can meet the physical standards and the endurance test alongside a graduate-level written exam. Paper 1 tests Reasoning, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and English in four equally weighted, separately timed sections; Paper 2 is a second full English paper, which makes English the largest single component of the written merit. The job on the ground — investigation, station and beat management, crowd and traffic control for Delhi Police, or company-level command in a CAPF battalion at borders and sensitive installations — is why the medical and physical stages are pass-or-fail regardless of written marks.
