- Master's degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course / Finance with MINIMUM 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ST/PwBD), OR a Doctorate degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course / Finance / Banking from a recognised Indian or foreign university. Equivalent qualifications recognised by Government of India are also accepted.

- Master's degree in Statistics / Mathematical Statistics / Mathematical Economics / Econometrics / Statistics & Informatics / Applied Statistics & Informatics with MINIMUM 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ST/PwBD), OR Master's degree in Mathematics with MINIMUM 55% (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) and a Post-graduate Diploma in Statistics or related fields from a recognised institute, OR M.Stat from Indian Statistical Institute with MINIMUM 55% (50% for SC/ST/PwBD), OR PG Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) — joint Programme from ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta with eligible Bachelor's degree, OR a Doctorate degree in the eligible disciplines from a recognised Indian or foreign university.

Reading the eligibility conditions correctly — common to General, DEPR and DSIM
- Age
- Age is computed on the reference date printed in the notification using the date of birth in your Class 10 certificate, and a candidate must be at least 21 on that date — a younger graduate has to wait for the next cycle. Relaxations are applied in the order the notification lists them and only up to the ceiling it states for each combination; the PwBD relaxation is added over the category relaxation, and the Ex-servicemen relaxation is service-linked, so the years of defence service are counted with the documents RBI specifies. A candidate who has already served in RBI can claim the experience-based relaxation only against RBI's own service records. EWS candidates carry no age relaxation and should not rely on the SC/ST/OBC bands they may see elsewhere.
- Education
- The percentage conditions are applied to the aggregate of all years or semesters as computed by the university, with the conversion of CGPA to percentage taken from the university's own formula or certificate — RBI does not apply a uniform conversion, so obtain the conversion letter before the online form closes. The qualifying degree must be complete (result declared) by the reference date; final-year candidates are not eligible in Grade B. For DEPR and DSIM the Master's subject names are read strictly against the list in the notification, so a Master's in a related but unlisted subject (for example Business Economics or Applied Mathematics without the required statistics component) needs an equivalence certificate, and candidates should resolve that before applying rather than at the document-verification stage.
- Nationality
- Indian citizens need only the standard photo identity proof (the same document must be carried to every stage). Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees and persons of Indian origin from the listed countries are admitted to the examination but are appointed only after producing the Government of India certificate of eligibility. Candidates already in government or public-sector service must submit a no-objection certificate from their employer at the interview stage, and those under a service bond disclose it at the same time.
- Attempts
- Only the six-attempt ceiling for General/EWS needs monitoring, and a Phase I appearance is what counts — applying and not sitting the exam is not an attempt. A candidate may apply for more than one stream in the same cycle only where the notification permits it and the Phase I dates do not clash. Keep printouts of every application and admit card, since RBI can ask for the attempt history at the interview stage. The application fee is paid online and is not refunded for an ineligible or duplicate application, so read the stream-specific education clause once more before paying.
